Budapest, Hungary - 2026
When my friend Summer announced she was coming to Europe to get a tattoo sleeve done by an artist she'd found on Instagram, I didn't hesitate. I've told all my friends that if they make the trip, I'll come meet them. So I flew to Budapest and spent a week there together. We kicked things off the right way, doing all the tourist activities and working through as much of the food scene as possible. We ate lángos, chicken paprikash, catfish, goulash, and chimney cakes all made the list. While Summer spent four full days getting her sleeve completed (which looks incredible), I worked out of the Amazon office in the city where I met Tamas and Kamil, two AWS folks based in Budapest. The city itself was a constant highlight with gorgeous architecture, friendly people, and a nightlife scene that surprised me. Budapest is one of those places that feels like it should be far more prominent in the world than it is.
